SHOWCAR UI — 2011
This project was an exploration of applying digital technology in a way that is appropriate and meets the unique needs of automotive drivers and passengers.
Feature Overview
Peripheral Lighting was one of the many unique concepts, it was used as a compliment to notifications so that a driver could be alerted to urgency and context of information being provided by just sensing the change in hue in their peripheral vision rather than needing to move their eyes from the road. A Passenger Information Display functioned as a Personal Local Lens, and curated relevant local information to the passenger. The car could provide the passenger with information relevant to where they were going or what is relevant to their personal interests in their immediate vicinity. There also was an exploration of different display and interaction technologies. The Driver’s Display was a Layered Multi-Plane Projection so that important information could be more clearly emphasized. Gesture Based Interaction allowed for a natural/intuitive way for a passenger to browse and even share content with the driver.
